Corporate branding in the past
We are now in a world where brands are fast becoming far more than just
a logo. Go back 15 years, my working career, and you can see that
business' then where just starting to think in terms of their "brand'.
They was only just thinking beyond a 'logo',
'sign' and 'stationery'.
To create a competitive brand though, you needed to spend a lot
of money, design wasn't cheap, printing was very expensive and to create
a high street brand was a huge expence. I can remember the public
outrage at the amount of money that BT spent on their
brand. When I look back, it makes me wonder how it is that today, we
spend as much on branding as we did all those years ago.
Branding today
Today things are different, in fact, they have changed so much that it's
getting difficult for older more established agencies to keep up, what
was once a strong, well established process, has today become a slow, stumbling
waist of money. The trouble is that these agencies are extremely likely
to have some amazing capabilities with individuals who are passionate about
what they do, but they very rarely manage to tap into them. There are some
agencies out here though that are doing it well, Rufus
Leonard, Wolf Olins, Mother, Landor, BBDH, Siegelgale, Satchi & Satchi,
Futurbrand, Winkreative, Wax, Essence, Grey, Framfab, Bostock and Pollitt,
AKQA, Agency are
all in my mind, fairly large agencies, but still managing to keep up.
Rareform
Why use us then? well, because we have a track record of design
excellence within the branding arena, but where not expensive, that simple.
